Description

POLARIS, the North Star.

What to say... this star has been a guide and compass for sailors and explorers for millennia. Just think about how many things they discovered and stumbled upon thanks to her. Fundamental star for astronomers of all ages.

Long exposure images like these reveal her surroundings filled by very weakly illuminated cosmic dust, the IFN.

Wiki: Integrated flux nebulas (IFN) are a relatively recently identified cosmic dust. In contrast to the typical and well known gaseous nebulas within the plane of the Milky way galaxy, IFNs lie beyond the main body of the galaxy wrapping and incorporating even the distant stars of Ursa Minor and Ursa Major.
